SPRING 2014: FRINGE

From the runway to departments stores, fringe is making a hot come back for spring/summer 2014 as it captures the hearts of many big name designers (and local brands) around the world.

The trend seems to be making making a hot comeback after it fizzled away last fall in favour of spikes and studs.

However, instead of the western inspired jackets and cowboy booties that have been the main outlook for designers in the past, the look has been completely revamped in favour of streamline cuts and sultry jewel toned bags

The trend is one of the more effortless/wearable trends that were seen during fashion week, as opposed to the fur coats that were seen on the runway at PRADA, which are cute, but will most likely give you heat stroke if worn for too long.

Fringe is generally easy to style, and allows you to transition out of your winter wardrobe without breaking the bank.

Tuesday 25 February 2014

hey lovelies!
I really wished that I had a lot more to share with you guys other than my polyvore sets.  Honestly, I've been trying to find new ways of expressing my thoughts and sharing them with you guys.  Although it seems like forever, I am currently in the process of uploading my first youtube video on my  twin sister and I's channel: ItsATwinThing95.  Its been taking all day and I can't wait for you guys to see it! :)

I promise that the video will by up as soon as possible. The liquid sand nail polish video will also be uploaded by the end of this week! So stay tuned if your interested.

In the mean time, Im currently working on some DIY's and can wait to share them as well! What do you think of a DIY detachable shirt collar? Or maybe distressing an old pair of jeans for the spring?

Personally,  I think that distressed jeans are perfect for spring because they are a nice break from the layers that I'm sure you're all hiding under right now BECAUSE IT IS SO COLD OUTSIDE, and they are generally inexpensive and easy to create.

Collars are definitely hot right now, and they are amazing to dress up your looked with (without trying too hard).  All you will need for this DIY is a pair of scissors and a collared blouse that you are willing to cut up (make sure that its not your favourite shirt before you start cutting out your collar).
Fingers crossed that the video goes up before tomorrow morning!

SPRINGSPIRATION X3

Hey guys!

Although summer seems like its a lifetime away, it seems closer than ever at the same time! And considering that a lot of Canadian universities are on spring break right now.  But the question is, am i really going to read something? Other than the obvious reading I've been doing... My twin sister and I have actually been shopping three times this week.. oh, and its only Tuesday.

One trend that Ive been noticing for spring are metallic colours, or chrome.  This can be easily achieved through metallic lining on a pair of boots, or a bright metallic nail polish colour.  I find that this trend is perfect for spring because its not to harsh or drastic, and it can really make your entire wardrobe look different. And it can be done without buying a whole new wardrobe.. just some simple pieces will be fine!  In my opinion, the best way to achieve this look without looking like you live and breath metallic shades is by adding a few simple touches to your everyday look. So like a pair of sunglasses, or a new bag... even shoes, which is how I achieved the look in the polyvore set.

long necklaces are another trend that I feel as if can help you update your look in the spring.  Its the perfect way to get transition FAR away from your collection of infinity/circle scarves without actually changing your entire wardrobe.

In my opinion, a flowy striped shirt such as the one featured in the set is the most covetable piece of clothing any girl can own.  The stripes on the top look so simple, but sophisticated at the same time. Honestly, it is the only thing that can be dressed up effortlessly for any occasion.  Other than the simplicity of stripes, they look good in every season, so really, where can you go wrong.  I suggest paring the shirt with a chunky cardigan cause its still usually chilly outside in the spring and it completes the look without appearing to be too dressy... or mime like.

Hey lovelies!

The weather outside actually sucks. like, we obviously needed another snow storm... and more snow to shovel! But the real question is, does the storm officially make it polar vortex X3?

SO. YEAH. Today I would like to do a perfume review! I recently purchased "couture, couture- go couture yourself" by juicy couture from shoppers last weekend.  And I'm not sure if I'm more obsessed with the scent itself, or the fact that it was ONLY $20.

I highly recommend that you go buy it RIGHT NOW and i swear you won't be disappointed.

The perfume is kind of musky... but also floral at the same time.  And it actually smells SO good.

But according to the internet... this is what the perfume smells like:
  • Top Notes: Grapefruit, African Orange Flower, Mandarin Orange
  • Middle Notes: Plum, Honeysuckle, Star Jasmine
  • Base Notes: Sandalwood, Vanilla, Amber
The other day,  I layered the scent with a hollister's crescent bay body mist that i purchased over the summer.

COUTURE, COUTURE + CRESCENT BAY = PERFECT DUO.

It's like a match made in fragrance heaven.

before I sign off for the day, apparently crescent bay smells like "a playful scent with notes of Aloe Vera, Watermelon, and California Poppy".

Some more "springspiration"

So spring is basically right around the corner, and to add on to the sets I posted yesterday, I've created another spring look. This look features a pastel pink top from H&M and is paired with some "leather" leggings. The leggings give the soft pastel top a more masculine look, especially when paired with the black and gold boots. The right balance of masculine and feminine are achieved with the flower crown, and the gold dove studs

Hey girls!
Recently I've been noticing a lot of collars everywhere! And don't get me wrong... the trend is extremely adorable, but i find that it sometimes makes me feel a little bulky. And i have a feeling that I'm not the only person in the world who feels this way (or am i?)

A couple of years ago i purchased 2 collared blouses from forever 21.  They were having a buy one get one free sale I just figured, why not? they'll be great to layer with.

But i was WRONG. Its not that they didn't look good layered with other pieces, but it was the actual shape of the shirt that threw me off. Both shirts were smocked and it just felt super uncomfortable.

I've seen a lot of people with the exact same shirt and it always amazes me of how creative you can get with a simple, white, smock from forever 21!

Recently Ive been thinking about doing a DIY project and turning both shirts into a detached collar and maybe doing something different with the rest of the shirt.

Here are some things to keep in mind when looking for a collar to layer with:
1. Stay away from smocked shirts (although they look great on their own, they're really uncomfortable to layer underneath something)

2. LOOSE shirts are the way to go! (the last thing you need is to feel constricted or bulky)

3. Be practical! (if you're only purchasing a collared shirt to layer, its probably a better idea to just buy something thats already detached.  Its a lot cheaper and  easy to find)

4. Have fun & be creative
